It's here on my Poetry page. Interviewed on Manhattan Cable reading a few poems. Also the host Peter Chelnik read some of his. Both of us accompanied by Ad Augeri on his djembe drum. Enjoy! And if you do please like and share! Thanks!
To watch it on my Poetry page click on the "More" Tab. I did finally manage to edit it! Hope you enjoy it!
I've been wrestling with various editing programs since 5:30 this morning non-stop. Now 4:10pm. Have some hope for a program I am now uploading the video to. But if that doesn't work I'll upload the video as is with some blurry seconds after the opening and before the show begins. I'll start again early tomorrow. :/
This is the video shot for the Flo Kennedy Show of me being interviewed and reading some of my poems. I'm leaving the body of the video as is but want to trim a few clips, as I've learned pieces of film are called, from the opening, that seem to be jumping around visually. These happen before the beginning of the show, shot for a Manhattan Cable.
I've never been recognized by a stranger because of my paintings or books but TV does get a larger audience and once a college student walked up to me and said, "Your Jacqueline Stigman!" I was about to ask her how she knew me when she said she'd seen me reading my poetry on this show. And watched it three times! I was really happy that the poems had held her interest. And of course Peter Chelnik who interviewed me also read his poems, and Ad Augeri played the djembe drum so it was entertaining. I begin a day job project today so it will cut into my time, but while I'm trimming very little from the video I've had to learn a program to do the few trims. I almost know enough to do it, so close. I plan to get it up by the weekend. If before I'll let you know here and on FB and Twitter. If you like what you find here please like and share. Thanks! Waiting to hear today from someone I'm including in my Acknowledgements in House of Forgetfulness. Once I get that info I will upload the Kindle eBook. Stay tuned! Right now learning the elements of some simple editing for the video shot for The Flo Kennedy Show of my being the guest poet, Peter Chelnik, a poet, interviewing me, both of us reading our poems, and Ad Augeri accompanying us on his Djembe drum. We had a lot of fun and I hope you enjoy it. Will give you a taste of my poetry. Somehow I got thru today. Did not accomplish a thing. My brother Chuck passed away April 14, 2014 so that 's coming up soon. Missing him terribly. So glad he's no longer in pain and know he is on to the next stage of the Great Adventure!
The morning he died I had called at 5am (In Chicago) to see how his night was. I had spent 5 or 8 days with him in the hospital sleeping in the same room and it was wonderful although he had so much energy I had to plead for time to sleep. We had so many good talks as always. Not to say we didn't hang up on each other occasionally over the years, but we both knew how to admit when we were wrong and apologized. That morning, the nurse told me he would probably pass that day which was Easter Sunday. I asked if she would hold the phone to his ear. He was sleeping and also on morphine at that time. So I got a chance to say goodbye and tell him how much I loved him. Then hung up the phone, went back on the couch, and just crouched there. I had had to return to NYC for a freelance project and I will always regret not staying until the end with him. At 9am I was sobbing on the couch. Then suddenly felt someone tap me on the head and heard his joking around voice say, "I thought I told you to be happy!" And then he was gone. So wonderful that he stopped by to say not good bye but to remind me to be happy. So like him. Such a good man. Not perfect no. But who is. Just before this happened I had looked at the clock wondering if it would be ok to call the nurses again to get an update. I knew how busy they were in hospice. So I knew it was 9am. That was when I felt that tap on my head and heard him. Felt him there in my apartment. At 10:30 my sister called to say they told her he had passed. I asked what time? She didn't know. So I called the hospice and the nurse on duty with him said, " Eight o'clock On the dot." Which was 9am in New York City by me It's up to me now to appreciate this wonderful gift of life. And spend it well. Good night, Chuck. My baby brother. Like Lennon's song, "Beautiful, beautiful boy. ." Until we meet again. Your loving sister, in NYC. That town you referred to as "that concrete jungle!" Okay, not the poems as I'm still proofreading. But here below is my Acknowledgements page that I just put together regarding two extraordinary women who played a big role regarding my poetry. Hope you enjoy hearing about them. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS - From the forthcoming: House of Forgetfulness Poetry by Jacqueline Stigman I am honored to thank Flo Kennedy, who sponsored a Manhattan Cable Arts Show where I was interviewed by poet Peter Chelnik who introduced me to Flo. Peter and I also both read some of our poems and were accompanied on the Djembe drum by Ad Augeri. Flo Kennedy was the first African American woman lawyer in New York City, known as an outspoken civil rights activist and feminist and more. Also very kind hearted. Flo passed away in 2000 at the age of 84. >>>I’ll be uploading the video soon to the poetry page on my site.<<< I am also honored to thank Romanian Poet Nina Cassian, who I met when she had just taken asylum in the US from the dangers of being a writer in Romania at that time. A friend of hers was beaten to death and in his diary a few of her poems were found that would not have been approved by the government at that time. Given this horrible incident she decided to seek asylum and became a citizen in the US. She passed away in 2014 at the age of 89. Leaving a legacy of 50 books of poetry and 20 others of history and children’s books. I met her when she read with poet Andy Brummer at the Cornelia Street Café here in New York City. We stayed in touch and eventually we both read together at the same Cornelia Street Café. I read first, as I was a new poet. But when she was about to read her poems she began by saying, “Jacqueline Stigman is a true poet.” Wow! The only better review of my poems I ever got was from my mom who read a selected group of my poems, and told me, “They explode my heart!” Now I'll get back to proofing the poems! Hope you liked hearing about these great ladies. If you did please like and share!
